If all the best people are in all the top jobs, then why is Britain such a f*****g bin fire? So asks Darren McGarvey in his new book The Social Distance Between Us: How Remote Politics Wrecked Britain.
That distance exists between those in power and those in poverty, those who control policy, and those who live with the consequences of it. As we exist within a cost of living crisis, prices soaring while the burden keeps being passed to regular people, it feels a crisis many won’t survive.
Joined by author and Paisley Book Festival writer-in-residence Kerry Hudson, the pair dive into this long-distance relationship Britain has with reality to discuss how to even begin to tackle a chasm of this size.
