Introducing two of Latin America’s most celebrated authors, both translated into English by Daniel Hahn - who will host this event - and published by the independent Scottish publisher Charco Press. Following the success of his auto-fiction Resistance, which charts his parents’ escape from military dictatorship in 1970s Argentina, Brazilian novelist Julián Fuks introduces Occupation, a narrative concerned with what it means to occupy, whether an abandoned building, a country, or a body. Diamela Eltit is one of Chile’s most admired writers and a major figure in the anti-Pinochet resistance. Her English language debut, Never Did The Fire, asks what happens in the aftermath of revolution, as we try to make sense of our most strongly held beliefs.
