Brian Conaghan - Cardboard Cowboys

Brian Conaghan has written seven Young Adult novels. His 2014 book, When Mr Dog Bites, was shortlisted for both the Carnegie Medal and Children’s Books Ireland (CBI) Award. This was followed by The Bombs That Brought Us Together, which won the 2016 Costa Children’s Book Award. In 2017, We Come Apart - a collaboration with Sarah Crossan - won the United Kingdom Literary Award. His novel, The Weight of a Thousand Feathers, won the 2018 An Post YA Irish Book of the Year, the CBI Honour Award and the Renaissance Accelerated Reader Award. His 2019 novel, The M Word was shortlisted for the An Post YA and Teen Book of the Year. Brian’s new Middle Grade book Cardboard Cowboys, published in April 2022, has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal.
Brian will discuss his writing pathway from reluctant reader to full-time writer, and read from his most recent book Cardboard Cowboys, followed by a Q & A session.

- Which class or classes will be taking part and how many pupils (please check guidance on numbers)
- Provide a 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference
Each school will be provided with at least one session based on their preferences as far as possible. Sessions should take place in the school library where possible.
