William Sutcliffe is the author of twelve novels, and has written for adults, young adults and children. His novels for young adults have engaged with contemporary issues including global injustice, drone warfare, poverty and social conditioning: The Wall was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and Concentr8 was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize. The Gifted, the Talented and Me, published in 2019, is a novel about family life, and an ordinary kid trying to fit in at a school for gifted and talented pupils, described as “refreshingly hilarious” by the Guardian.

William will read from and talk about his latest novel, The Summer We Turned Green. It’s a novel about a conventional family who find themselves living opposite a climate change protest camp. Thirteen-year-old Luke’s summer holidays are turned upside down when his elder sister crosses the road to move in with the protesters, soon followed by their father. It’s a book that looks at what it means to protest, how to resist convention, and how to stand up to forces that seem immense and irresistible.

Please specify:

1. Date and time of session (please ensure this corresponds with days school librarian is in school)
2. Which class or classes will be taking part and how many pupils (please check guidance on numbers)
3. Provide a 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd preference

Each school will be provided with at least one session based on their preferences as far as possible. Sessions should take place in the school library where possible.
