Thomas Clark - Wimpy Weans and Scunnersome Events

Thomas Clark is a writer and poet who works mainly in the Scots language. His books for young people include “A Series o Scunnersome Events”, “Peppa’s Bonnie Unicorn”, and “Diary o a Wimpy Wean”, which won the award for Best Bairns Book at the first ever Scots Language Awards in 2019. He has since released two more “Wimpy Wean” books, “Rodrick the Radge” and “Up Tae The Oxters”, as well as writing a trilogy of plays about the greatest under-13 football team in the universe, the Auchtermichty Aw-Stars.

Thomas will read from his books, and provide an introduction to the Scots language, why Scots matters, and help build confidence among young people in reading and writing in Scots.

Book an Event

All events are free to schools. We can accommodate one class at each event (maximum 30 pupils)

If your local library is hosting events please select an event from your local library. If your local library is not hosting an event or you are not situated near a library, please select an event from the library that is closest to you. (Bus hire costs can be reimbursed to schools who are situated more than one mile from where a library event is taking place.)

Please provide the following information in the email:

  • Name of your school.
  • Class participating including number of pupils (maximum 30 pupils) and name of teacher and contact email.
  • If you will require costs of bus hire to be reimbursed.

Closing date - Monday 24th January at 5pm.

We will select a school at random and inform you week beginning 24th January if you have been successful. The library will provide copies on loan of the author’s books for the teacher to use in advance, and can recommend classroom resources if available.
